President Joe Biden has issued a stern condemnation of what he terms "reckless and irresponsible disinformation" concerning the federal response to hurricanes Helene and Milton. In a clear rebuke, Biden accused former President Donald Trump of spearheading these false claims, particularly concerning the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) efforts.

Biden's comments from the White House underscored his frustration with misinformation that could hinder hurricane victims from seeking necessary aid. He emphasized national unity during such crises, stating, "In moments like this, there are no red or blue states. There's one United States of America, where neighbors are helping neighbors."

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell supported Biden's remarks, noting that while disinformation appears to be decreasing, the agency remains focused on their mission. However, Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt countered these claims, arguing that local residents found the federal response lacking.

As Hurricane Milton, a Category 4 storm, surged toward Florida’s Gulf Coast, federal and state officials prepared for its impact. Federal agencies have issued dire warnings and detailed their extensive preparations. According to the National Hurricane Center, Milton, despite some weakening, remains a formidable threat with sustained winds of 145 mph.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis remarked on the state's readiness, noting that 51 of Florida's 67 counties were under a state of emergency. FEMA’s Criswell highlighted the deployment of 1,200 additional search-and-rescue personnel to Florida, supplementing the 1,000 already present. This deployment represents the largest mobilization of the Florida National Guard in the state’s history.

The storm surge predictions have shifted, now expecting 10 to 15 feet of surge from Anna Maria Island to Boca Grande. Greater Tampa Bay and surrounding areas could see surges between 8 and 12 feet, potentially devastating homes and businesses. Already, parts of Florida are experiencing heavy rainfall and tornadoes as Milton's outer bands make landfall.

To ensure comprehensive preparation, the Army Corps of Engineers has deployed 80 personnel to the impact zone, with additional staff ready to support response efforts. Temporary power teams are also staged to provide critical assistance in restoring electricity and conducting emergency repairs.

Amid these preparations, Biden assured the governors of affected states of continued federal support as the storm progresses. Vice President Kamala Harris echoed the call for evacuation and warned against exploitation during the crisis.

In conclusion, as Hurricane Milton draws closer, federal, state, and local agencies are working in unison to mitigate its impact, counter misinformation, and ensure the safety and well-being of all affected residents.
