Pedestrian Fatally Struck on I-676 in Early Morning Accident

Early Wednesday morning, tragedy struck on I-676 as a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on the Vine Street Expressway near Broad Street. The incident occurred around 4:19 a.m., momentarily closing the westbound lanes of the highway.

According to Trooper Paul Holdefer, spokesperson for Pennsylvania State Police Troop K station, the pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was walking in the traffic lanes when the collision occurred. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and was determined not to be at fault.

Authorities worked tirelessly to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. The westbound lanes of I-676 were closed for several hours in the aftermath.

Tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the incident or the factors that may have led to the pedestrian being on the highway.
