**DePaul University Mourns the Tragic Death of Soccer Player Chase Stegall**

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Chase Stegall, a sophomore and dedicated member of DePaul University's men's soccer team, was discovered dead in his dorm room early Monday morning. Stegall, originally from Atlanta and 20 years old, was a beloved student-athlete for the Blue Demons. The devastating news was confirmed by both the university and Chicago police.

Police reports state that at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Stegall was found unresponsive in his dorm on North Kenmore Avenue. Despite immediate efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have initiated an investigation into his death, although the final conclusions await autopsy results.

The DePaul community is reeling from this sudden loss. Men's soccer coach Mark Plotkin and Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy expressed their deep sorrow in a statement, calling Stegall a "cherished member of our community, dedicated teammate, and kind-hearted friend." They offered condolences to his family, friends, and teammates and emphasized how his presence will be sorely missed throughout the university.

University President Robert L. Manuel also conveyed his sympathies, highlighting Stegall's warmth, character, and vibrant presence, which touched many lives both on and off the field. He extended the university's heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies to those affected by the loss.

Stegall had previously shared a poignant narrative on the DePaul athletics website, describing his personal battles and triumphs. After experiencing a seizure at DePaul, which resulted in a redshirt freshman year, he returned to play 16 out of 17 games last fall and scored his first collegiate goal against Drake on September 2.

Chase Stegall was also the son of Milton Stegall, who had a brief career as a wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL.
