In a shocking incident that occurred last month, an off-duty NYPD officer has been arrested and charged in connection with a road rage shooting in Voorhees Township, New Jersey. The accused officer, identified as 27-year-old Hieu Tran of Yonkers, is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The incident took place on May 17, during a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 73 and Cooper Road. Authorities arrived at the scene at 11:13 p.m. to find a 30-year-old man from Voorhees Township suffering from a gunshot wound. The injured man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment.

Through an intensive investigation conducted by the Voorhees Township Police, detectives were able to gather crucial evidence. Surveillance video footage, cell phone records, and ballistics evidence all played a crucial role in identifying Tran as the shooter during what appeared to be a road rage incident. The ballistics evidence recovered from the scene was found to match Tran's department-issued firearm, leading to his arrest.

Tran, who was off duty at the time of the shooting, now faces serious charges. He has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, as well as second-degree aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. As per the NYPD's policy, Tran has been suspended without pay following his arrest.

In a court hearing held on Thursday, Tran waived extradition and will be transferred to the custody of detectives with the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. The accused officer is expected to be transferred later on Friday afternoon.

The incident has once again raised concerns regarding road rage incidents and the use of firearms. The Voorhees Township Police Department, along with other authorities, will continue to investigate the matter to ensure justice is served. The injured victim's recovery remains a priority, and efforts are being made to provide him with the necessary medical care.

As the case proceeds, many are left shocked and concerned about the alleged actions of an NYPD officer. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining professionalism and restraint, especially when one is entrusted with the responsibility of enforcing the law and protecting the public.

Efforts are being made to extend support to the victim's family, and authorities are working diligently to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications, prompting a reassessment of protocols and training within law enforcement agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
