In a shocking incident that unfolded on Monday night, a man opened fire at an apartment complex in North Las Vegas, leaving a trail of devastation. As authorities continue to investigate, court records are shedding light on the troubled past of the gunman.

The North Las Vegas Police Department responded to the scene at the apartment complex on Casa Norte Dr. around 10 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two women with gunshot wounds. As the search expanded, they found three more victims - two women, a man, and a 13-year-old girl - all suffering from gunshot wounds.

Tragically, five of the victims succumbed to their injuries, while the 13-year-old girl remains in critical condition. The identity of the victims has yet to be released.

Records from the North Las Vegas court show that the gunman had a criminal history spanning over two decades. In 1999, he faced charges of burglary, robbery, and murder, but a jury acquitted him of all counts. However, the situation took a grim turn in 2002 when he was charged and found guilty of domestic battery and battery on a police officer.

Further encounters with the law followed in 2007 and 2008, with additional charges of battery, robbery, and domestic violence. In 2009, he served time in the Nevada Department of Corrections for a battery charge.

Following his most recent charge of domestic battery in January, a judge ordered the gunman to attend a domestic violence counseling course, pay a fine, and complete community service. Surprisingly, records indicate that he successfully finished the course on June 3, 2024, just two weeks before the tragic incident unfolded.

Residents of the apartment complex were left stunned by the horrifying events. One individual shared with FOX5 that the gunman had openly acknowledged his troubled past, remarking, "We've all had some kind of issues in our life, but sometimes we need to turn our lives around and make better choices, better decisions."

As the investigation continues, authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the shooting and understand the motives behind such a senseless act of violence. The community mourns the loss of the victims and hopes for a swift recovery for the young girl fighting for her life.

It is crucial, now more than ever, to address the issue of domestic violence and strive for effective prevention strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals in our communities.
