New Hampshire Woman Arrested for Reckless Driving with Unbuckled Children
Manchester, NH - A 23-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after allegedly driving at speeds over 110 miles per hour with unbuckled children in the back seat, according to New Hampshire state police.
Late Friday night, a state trooper observed a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV dangerously weaving in and out of traffic on Route 101 West. The vehicle reached an alarming speed of 112 miles per hour at one point. Concerned for the safety of other drivers, the trooper pulled over the driver, identified as Shirley Stanley of Manchester.
Upon inspection, the trooper discovered that Stanley's two young children, aged 1 and 4 years old, were not properly restrained in the back of the SUV. This discovery prompted New Hampshire State Police to charge Stanley with multiple offenses related to endangering the welfare of a child and violating required child passenger restraints.
Stanley faces charges, including reckless operation, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of violating required child passenger restraints, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, unsafe lane change, following too closely, and speeding.
Following her arrest, Stanley was released on personal recognizance bail. She is scheduled to appear in Candia District Court on June 10 to face her charges.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the reckless driving incident to come forward. Those with information are encouraged to contact Trooper Jacob Benjamin at Jacob.A.Benjamin@dos.nh.gov or State Police dispatch at (603) 223-4381.
This alarming incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic safety laws, especially when it comes to the well-being of children. The New Hampshire State Police are committed to ensuring the safety of all residents on the roads and will continue to enforce these laws diligently.
