### Michigan Democrats Voice Concerns Over Kamala Harris's Polling Numbers
In the battleground state of Michigan, Democratic Representative Elissa Slotkin has expressed concerns regarding Kamala Harris's standing in the presidential election. At a recent fundraiser, Slotkin shared her unease with supporters, citing internal polling data that places Harris in a challenging position within the state.
"I’m not feeling my best right now about where we are on Kamala Harris in a place like Michigan," Slotkin revealed earlier this month, as reported by Axios. According to Slotkin, the internal polls show Harris struggling, though she did not provide further details on the specifics of the data.
The release of mail-in ballots began in Michigan on Thursday, alongside heightened campaign activities from both parties. Former President Donald Trump held a speech and town hall meeting in the state on Friday, while Harris's running mate, Tim Walz, engaged with voters at a football game between the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota on Saturday.
A pivotal vice-presidential debate is scheduled for Tuesday, where Walz and Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, will face off. This debate is expected to be a significant event in the tightening race.
Michigan remains a focal point for both campaigns. The FiveThirtyEight average of polls indicates a very close race, with Harris holding a narrow 1.9-point lead. Michigan, which played a decisive role in Joe Biden's 2020 victory and was previously won by Trump in 2016, is crucial for Harris's path to the presidency. Success in the Rust Belt states—Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—is essential for Harris to secure the electoral college, whereas losing even one of these states could jeopardize her chances.
Aside from the presidential battle, Slotkin herself is in a race to retain her Senate seat, a critical component for the Democrats to maintain their Senate majority. Polls suggest Slotkin holds a wider lead over her opponent, former representative Mike Rogers. The Cook Political Report has rated the competition to succeed Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow as a highly competitive toss-up.
As the campaign approaches its final weeks, the tightness of the race in Michigan, along with similar sentiments in states such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona, underscores the contentious nature of this election cycle.
