A tragic incident unfolded in Montgomery during the early hours of Sunday, as nine people were shot and four others sustained injuries in a mass shooting. Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed reported that police and fire medics were summoned at 1:46 a.m. to the area of North Pass Road and Alabama River Parkway after receiving reports of gunshot victims.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered an adult female and a juvenile male with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Subsequently, three adult males, two adult females, and two juvenile males arrived at a local hospital on their own with similar injuries. In addition, an adult female and two adult males suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a vehicle versus pedestrian collision, while another adult female sustained minor injuries from broken glass and sought treatment at an emergency room.
During a press conference, Mayor Reed stated, "This morning, more than 600 rounds were fired at a crowded party in the North Pass area. Nine were wounded, and at least four more were injured in the chaos that followed." Law enforcement agencies, including the Montgomery Police Department, ATF, and FBI, are actively conducting interviews with witnesses and suspects.
"We are working tirelessly to identify those involved, and we urge anyone with information to come forward to help us put a stop to this sort of senseless, violent activity," Mayor Reed appealed to the public. Further details regarding the incident will be released as they become available.
It is a tragic reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence that continues to plague communities across the country. The authorities are hoping that community cooperation and the diligent efforts of law enforcement agencies will bring justice to the victims and help prevent future acts of violence.
