Suspect in Maryland Mom's Murder Arrested in Oklahoma: Undocumented Immigrant Connected to Gangs

Tulsa, Oklahoma - In a major development, the Harford County Sheriff's office announced on Saturday that they have successfully apprehended the suspect in the murder of Maryland mom, Rachel Morin. The suspect, identified as Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, a 23-year-old undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, was arrested in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday.

Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler confirmed that Hernandez is facing charges of first-degree murder and first-degree rape. Harford County State's Attorney Alison Healy will be leading the prosecution in this case. Hernandez, who had illegally crossed the border into the United States in February 2023, has a disturbing past. In January 2023, he is believed to have committed another murder in El Salvador, leading to an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol.

During the news conference, Sheriff Gahler revealed that the suspect has connections in the Washington, D.C. area, specifically in Virginia and Prince George's County. Additionally, Hernandez is known to have affiliations with notorious gangs. The arrest of Hernandez brings relief to law enforcement, who have been tirelessly tracking him down.

The process of extraditing Hernandez to Maryland is now underway, but it may take anywhere between 30 to 60 days, according to Sheriff Gahler. Once extradited, Hernandez will face justice for his alleged crimes against Rachel Morin, whose life was tragically cut short.

Last August, Morin was found murdered along the Ma & Pa Trail, sparking a community-wide search for answers. It is believed that she went missing during her usual walk along the popular trail in Harford County. Law enforcement officials have pieced together evidence indicating that the suspect hid in a drainage culvert and launched a brutal attack on Morin as she was walking.

Investigators were able to establish a link between Morin's murder and a separate assault and home invasion that took place in Los Angeles, California on March 26. This connection played a crucial role in identifying the suspect and focusing the investigation.

As the case against Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez progresses, the community remains united in seeking justice for Rachel Morin and the loved ones she left behind.
