Former School Resource Officer Wanted in Connection with Double Murder and Child Abduction
Authorities in Washington state are on a manhunt for Elias Huizar, a former school resource officer, who is considered armed and dangerous after allegedly killing his ex-wife and girlfriend and abducting their 1-year-old son. The tragic incident took place on Monday afternoon outside William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland.
According to local reports and the West Richland Police Department, Huizar is accused of fatally shooting his ex-wife, Amber Marie Rodriguez. Later, during a search of Huizar's residence on South Highlands Boulevard, authorities discovered the body of his teenage girlfriend.
An Amber Alert was issued for Roman Huizar, the suspect's 1-year-old son, who he reportedly shares with his minor girlfriend. Authorities believe Huizar may be en route to Mexico with the child in a silver 2009 Toyota Corolla, bearing license plate number CBZ4745.
The West Richland PD has issued a press release, warning the public that Huizar is armed and dangerous, and cautioning that he may be likely to commit additional crimes.
Court documents obtained by the Tri-City Herald reveal that Rodriguez had recently filed for a custody change involving her two young sons with Huizar. The couple divorced in 2020, and Rodriguez had previously sought a protection order after Huizar was accused of raping a teenage girl in February. It was alleged that Huizar sexually assaulted the unconscious victim after a night of drinking, leading to his arrest.
Questions remain regarding the age of Huizar's teenage girlfriend at the time she became pregnant with their child. The investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the shootings or Huizar's whereabouts to contact the West Richland Police Department at (509) 628-0333. Local and state law enforcement agencies, as well as the FBI and U.S. Marshal Service, are collaborating in the search for Huizar.
