A man from San Fernando has been apprehended in connection to the gruesome murder of a woman whose charred remains were discovered in Bakersfield last year. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced the arrest of Juan Figuroa, aged 30, who is suspected of being involved in the killing of 27-year-old Karla Terron.
The arrest took place early Wednesday morning at approximately 5 a.m. when homicide detectives served a warrant at a residence located in the 1500 block of Knox Street. Figuroa was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of committing the murder of Terron. The Sheriff's Department stated that investigators are working diligently to make additional arrests for others believed to be involved in this case.
The investigation into Terron's death has been ongoing for over a year and eight months. The Sheriff's Homicide Bureau, along with assistance from the California Highway Patrol and the San Fernando Police Department, have conducted an extensive investigation. This includes two press conferences held to gather public assistance in solving this heinous crime.
The case is now set to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration. The Sheriff's Department expressed gratitude for the public's support and urged anyone with information related to this case to come forward.
Karla Terron's last known location was at the VFW Post in the 100 block of North Hagar Street in San Fernando on the evening of December 16, 2022. Her body was discovered the following day at around 5 a.m., engulfed in flames and deceased on southbound state Route 99 at the Hosking Road off ramp in Bakersfield. An autopsy revealed that Terron's cause of death was due to multiple stab wounds.
Investigators believe that after leaving the VFW Post, Terron went to a residence in San Fernando. Her body was then transported to Bakersfield in a white SUV. The vehicle has since been recovered by authorities. Detectives are also seeking information regarding Terron's missing cellphone and have asked anyone who may have found it around the time of her disappearance to contact them.
The Sheriff's Department displayed a photo of the white SUV during a news conference held in July and appealed to the public for any information regarding its whereabouts in either San Fernando or Bakersfield. They also urged anyone with any other details related to this case to contact the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
