Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a top contender to become Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, is set to headline a campaign event in Forsyth County on Sunday as part of a "Weekend of Action" organized by the Harris campaign, which includes more than 170 events statewide.

Governor Beshear will speak at an office opening in Forsyth County at 11 a.m. Forsyth County, a deep-red exurb, showed strong support for former President Donald Trump in the 2020 election, with nearly two-thirds of the vote going to him.

As one of Harris' leading surrogates, Beshear has emerged as a vocal critic of U.S. Senator JD Vance, who has recently been announced as Trump's running mate. Beshear has described Vance as a "phony" who does not truly represent the Appalachian region. Despite Vance having family ties in Kentucky, Beshear emphasized that Vance is not from there.

Harris is expected to announce her running mate in the coming weeks as the Democrats prepare for their nominating convention. Interviews with Georgia delegates indicate that there is no clear consensus on who Harris should choose as her running mate.

The probability of Harris being the party's nominee has shifted the electoral landscape in Georgia, giving Democrats newfound hope of potentially winning the state in the upcoming November election. Harris will be holding an event in Atlanta on Tuesday, marking one of her initial campaign stops since becoming the likely nominee for the Democratic party.
