Kamala Harris' recent visit to metro Atlanta on Friday led to traffic disruptions as the Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee addressed important issues at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The speech, which highlighted abortion rights in light of recent tragic incidents in Georgia, drew attention to the state's GOP-backed policies. Following her speech just before 3:30 p.m., Harris left the venue around 4 p.m., causing significant delays on I-75 as her motorcade made its way to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta.
The Vice President's visit to Atlanta resulted in temporary road closures and the shutdown of I-75 during peak traffic hours. The closures had a significant impact on one of the busiest traffic corridors in the metro area, affecting commuters during rush hour. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration issued temporary flight restrictions around Dobbins Air Reserve Base from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., further complicating travel in the area.
Harris, who arrived at Dobbins Air Reserve Base around 2:25 p.m., continued her campaign trail by heading to Madison, Wisconsin for a campaign event before returning to Washington later that day. Her brief stop in Atlanta left a mark on the city's traffic patterns, with motorists and residents experiencing delays and diversions due to the closures and heightened security measures in place during her visit. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump's aides have indicated that he also plans to visit the state of Georgia soon, with multiple trips and a rally scheduled in Savannah next week as part of his campaigning efforts leading up to the November general election.
