Less than a week after securing the delegate threshold needed to become the Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris is embarking on a crucial battleground state tour alongside her yet-to-be-announced running mate. As an added attraction, the two-time Grammy-winning band, Bon Iver, will be joining Harris in Eau Claire, Wisconsin for a special performance on Wednesday, August 7th.
The inclusion of Bon Iver in Harris' rally comes as no surprise, as the band has long been committed to uplifting their hometown. Founded in Eau Claire, Bon Iver has regularly premiered new music at the Eaux Claires Music Festival, an event co-founded and co-curated by lead singer Justin Vernon and The National's Aaron Dessner. Demonstrating their non-partisan stance and dedication to engaging people in the political process, the band also participated in For Wisconsin, an initiative launched in 2022.
In collaboration with Noise for Now, Bon Iver even supported reproductive rights by promoting a Roe v. Wade-themed pro-choice T-shirt, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood. This alignment of values makes their presence at Harris' rally all the more fitting.
Harris herself is no stranger to Wisconsin, having already made nine visits to the state since taking office, with this appearance marking her sixth visit in 2024 alone. Her initial campaign stop after announcing her presidential candidacy earlier this year was in Milwaukee, showing her commitment to connecting with the Wisconsin electorate.
The battleground state tour, spanning seven cities in five days, will be a crucial opportunity for Harris to engage with voters in key swing states. The tour will kick off in Philadelphia before making stops in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Detroit, Durham, North Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.
The inclusion of music in the Harris campaign has become a cornerstone, with the campaign utilizing Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar's Grammy-nominated song "Freedom" as its official anthem. Further showcasing their commitment to diverse musical voices, Harris' campaign recently featured performances and speeches by Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo at an Atlanta rally on July 30th.
As Harris continues to solidify her position as the Democratic presidential nominee, this battleground state tour accompanied by Bon Iver's special performance serves as a testament to the campaign's dedication to reaching voters, bridging the gaps between music and politics along the way.
