In a presidential contest filled with unexpected twists and turns, the nomination of Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for president alongside Joe Biden sets the stage for a historic battle against Republican Donald Trump. The matchup between a former prosecutor and a convicted felon promises to create a campaign unlike any before in American history.

For Democrats worried about Biden's age and mental acuity, the selection of Harris as the nominee shifts the focus back to Trump and his legal troubles. At 59 years old, Harris also puts to rest concerns about the nominee's age, particularly in comparison to the 78-year-old Trump, who is now the oldest presidential nominee in history.

Democrats see Harris' prosecutorial experience as a significant advantage in a head-to-head contest with Trump. Her skills in the courtroom are expected to help dismantle Trump's arguments and present a compelling case against him. As a prosecutor, Harris took on predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, and cheaters who broke the rules for personal gain.

Republicans, however, argue that having a former prosecutor as their nominee does not benefit the Democrats, claiming that the era of "tough on crime" Democrats is long gone. They believe Harris' background will hinder her candidacy rather than help it.

Harris' experience prosecuting sexual predators allows Democrats to draw a stark contrast between her and Trump, who faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Trump's felony conviction further strengthens their argument that his legal problems should disqualify him for office.
