In a bid to solidify his position as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, Jarrett Stidham has taken the initiative to organize workouts with his offensive teammates this week. According to Mike Klis of 9News, Stidham, 27, has invited some key players, including wide receiver Courtland Sutton, to join him for three or four days of training at TCU in Texas.
Stidham, who joined the Broncos as a free agent in 2023, started the final two games of the previous season in place of Russell Wilson. However, with the addition of Zach Wilson in a trade and the drafting of Bo Nix in the first round, the quarterback competition in Denver has become fierce.
During the offseason program, the three quarterbacks, Stidham, Wilson, and Nix, shared the first-team reps as they vied for the starting role. However, Stidham's decision to take charge and organize these workouts showcases his determination to win the job.
The gathering kicked off with a dinner at Stidham's home on Monday night, providing an opportunity for teammates to bond and build chemistry off the field. The workouts are set to commence on Tuesday, with Stidham and his offensive teammates focusing on enhancing their on-field connection and familiarity with the Broncos' offensive system.
The presence of Courtland Sutton is particularly noteworthy, as the wide receiver had skipped the team's voluntary offseason program in a quest for a contract extension. However, Sutton did participate in the mandatory minicamp held on June 11-12, demonstrating his commitment to the team.
While Stidham hosts these voluntary workouts, Bo Nix and the other Broncos rookies are due to report to training camp next week. The veterans, including Stidham and the other quarterbacks, are set to join them on July 23.
As the Broncos gear up for the upcoming season, the competition for the starting quarterback position remains intense. Jarrett Stidham's proactive approach in organizing these workouts not only showcases his experience in the offense but also highlights his determination to secure the role. The coming days of intense training and bond-building activities will certainly be crucial for Stidham and his offensive teammates as they work towards their shared goal of success in the upcoming season.
