In an ongoing investigation, new details have emerged after a body was discovered in the Powers Community of Jones County. The Jones County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the body was found on Monday morning at a local used car dealership along Mississippi Highway 184, near the intersection with Victory Road. Startlingly, the remains were discovered inside the trunk of one of the vehicles.

Sheriff Joe Berlin revealed that the body may be linked to the case of Samantha Elisabeth McCowan, a 32-year-old woman who had been reported missing. McCowan had reportedly walked away from a vehicle accident on the morning of Friday, June 8. Sheriff Berlin expressed his belief that the body is most likely hers.

Law enforcement authorities have refrained from identifying the remains as McCowan's or providing any details about the gender, age, or race of the deceased at this time. In order to aid in the investigation, the sheriff's office has requested assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit.
