A Wisconsin inmate seeking to avoid testifying in an upcoming trial admitted to framing another prisoner, Ramon Morales-Reyes, by falsely accusing him of sending threatening letters to President Donald Trump. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed yesterday that the investigation into the threats is ongoing.

Morales-Reyes was thrust into the national spotlight last week when DHS Secretary Kristi Noem accused him publicly of writing the letters threatening to kill Trump. Morales-Reyes, identified by DHS as being in the United States without legal status, was alleged to have sent a threatening letter to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent and was subsequently arrested.

Further investigation by the Department revealed that the letters, ostensibly sent by Morales-Reyes, were actually authored by Demetric Deshawn Scott, a fellow inmate with whom Morales-Reyes had a dispute. Scott is currently incarcerated on charges of physically assaulting Morales-Reyes. According to sources, Scott aimed to have Morales-Reyes deported to avoid his testimony at the trial, leveraging the severe nature of a threat against the President to ensure rapid action.

Officials stated that Morales-Reyes underwent a handwriting test, which showed no match to the handwriting in the threatening letter. In a recent interview with Milwaukee police, Scott admitted to writing both the letters and the envelopes. He confessed his motive was to gain "freedom," a sentiment he expressed during the interview.

This plot was confirmed when police searched Scott's jail cell and found the blue pen used to write the letters. Moreover, court records reveal that Scott was overheard discussing his plan over the phone, describing it as a "hell of a plan" to have Morales-Reyes removed so his own robbery case might be dismissed.

As a result of his actions, Scott now faces additional charges including identity theft, felony intimidation of a witness, and two counts of bail jumping. Morales-Reyes, meanwhile, remains in custody as the investigation continues, though his role in the purported threats against Trump is now under serious doubt.
