Bradshaw made his opinion known after the Browns' 34-13 loss to the Washington Commanders, expressing his sentiments in a characteristically blunt manner. "Do you put Watson down now?" Bradshaw questioned, emphasizing Watson's consistent underperformance since joining the Browns.
The exchange didn't stop there. Howie Long, another studio analyst, sought to temper Bradshaw's harsh language. "I wouldn't put him down. I'd want to sit him," Long suggested. Michael Strahan chimed in, agreeing with Long and adding, "Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. That was a little harsh," prompting laughter from the entire Sunday crew.
Bradshaw, 76, has a reputation for his provocative statements, often catching viewers off guard. This isn't the first time he's drawn attention for his outspoken commentary. Prior to the start of the NFL season, the four-time Super Bowl winner made waves with his exuberant remarks about his enthusiasm for the new season, leaving some viewers a bit taken aback.
Nevertheless, Bradshaw's call for Watson to be benched isn't without merit. Since arriving in Cleveland three years ago, Watson has struggled to find his footing, frequently missing his targets and performing far below expectations. The Browns currently hold a 1-4 record, making them the worst offense in the NFL based on DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) rankings. In fact, their current DVOA score is the eighth-worst in NFL history dating back to 1979.
Despite these challenges, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski remains steadfast in his decision not to bench Watson. "We're not changing quarterbacks," Stefanski affirmed to reporters after the game. "We need to play better. I need to coach better."
As the Browns continue to search for solutions, the debate over Watson's role on the team remains heated, with Bradshaw's recent comments adding fuel to the fire.
