**Packers Suspend Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs for Conduct Detrimental to the Team**
Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver Romeo Doubs is set to miss the team's upcoming game against the Los Angeles Rams. The announcement came on Saturday when the Packers disclosed that Doubs was placed on the reserve/suspended list for one game due to conduct detrimental to the team.
"Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo for this week's game," stated general manager Brian Gutekunst in a team release. He further explained, "His decisions and actions during the week negatively impacted the team and required us to take this action. While we are certainly disappointed, we are confident that we will be able to move forward in a positive manner. Romeo is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to welcoming him back next week."
Reports from Bill Huber of SportsIllustrated.com indicate that Doubs' dissatisfaction with his offensive role might have played a part in the suspension. Doubs was present for practice on Wednesday, which is typically when the game's strategy is unveiled to the players. Surprisingly, he did not show up for practice on Thursday and Friday. Head coach Matt LaFleur expressed hope on Thursday that Doubs would return to practice by Friday, but no specific reasons were provided for his continued absence.
This season, Doubs ranks third on the team in targets, having garnered 20 so far, trailing slightly behind Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, who lead with 22 targets each. Within the recent game against Minnesota, Doubs and Reed both had eight targets. Despite Wicks' multiple drops, his playing time was considerable, having participated in 58 snaps compared to Doubs' 65.
Throughout this season, Doubs has managed 12 receptions, which ties him for second alongside tight end Tucker Kraft. He has accumulated 169 yards but has yet to score a touchdown. In prior seasons, Doubs was accustomed to being a primary offensive target, leading the team with 96 targets last year and tying for second in his rookie season in 2021.
The Packers will now have to face the Rams without Doubs, putting additional strain on a team already doubtful of Christian Watson's availability due to an ankle sprain. This leaves receiving responsibilities to Reed, Wicks, Bo Melton, and Malik Heath.
In other roster moves announced on Saturday, the Packers signed cornerback Robert Rochell from the practice squad to the active roster and elevated fullback Andrew Beck for gameday. Rochell has previously appeared in two games as a gameday elevation and has played in 39 regular-season games with five starts for the Rams and Packers. Meanwhile, defensive lineman Jonathan Ford, designated for return from injured reserve, will not be traveling or playing this week.
