### Georgia Wide Receiver Colbie Young Arrested on Battery Charges
ATHENS — Colbie Young, a wide receiver for Georgia, was taken into custody early Tuesday morning on charges of assaulting an unborn child and battery. According to records from the Athens Clarke-County jail, Young was booked at 4:18 A.M. and remains behind bars with his bond set at $2,500. As of now, the University of Georgia has not released any statements regarding Young's status. Head coach Kirby Smart is scheduled for a media briefing later this evening.
Young, a transfer from Miami this offseason, has made a significant impact in his short time with the team. Over the course of five games, he has accumulated 11 receptions for 149 yards and scored two touchdowns. In last Saturday's game against Auburn, Young led the team in receiving yards with three catches for 51 yards. Coach Smart had praised Young's progression in September, stating, "He continues to grow and get better and we're going to need him in our offense. We need him to be able to play even more snaps and be in the best shape of his life to play enough snaps."
This incident marks the seventh arrest of a Georgia player since March 2024. Other players like Trevor Etienne, Smael Mondon, Sacovie White, Bo Hughley, and Daniel Harris have faced driving-related charges. Both Etienne and Harris served a one-game suspension following their arrests. The team also dismissed former wide receiver Rara Thomas in July after multiple family violence charges, his second such incident while at Georgia.
Georgia, currently holding a 4-1 record, recently secured a 31-13 victory over the Auburn Tigers. They are set to face Mississippi State this Saturday at 4:15 p.m. ET, with the game being aired on the SEC Network. The outcome of this weekend's game could further shape the team’s season, as they look to navigate both on-field challenges and off-field controversies.
