Georgia starting linebacker Smael Mondon and backup offensive tackle Bo Hughley have been arrested this week on separate misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, according to booking records from the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, Hughley was charged with failure to maintain lane/improper driving on road and reckless driving. The documents reveal that he posted a bond totaling $26 and was released at 10:08 p.m. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Mondon faced charges of racing on highways/streets and reckless driving. Records show that he also paid $26 and was released at 12:25 a.m. on Thursday.

Mondon played a significant role in Georgia's football team last season, participating in 13 games and starting in 11 of them as a linebacker. He ranked second on the team, contributing 68 tackles. Although Hughley redshirted in the previous season, he is considered a valuable backup offensive tackle.

These arrests come in the wake of a tragic car accident involving Georgia football player Devin Willock and recruiting staff member Chandler LeCroy in January 2023. Jalen Carter, a former Georgia defensive lineman now with the Philadelphia Eagles, was the driver involved in the accident and was charged with misdemeanor reckless driving and racing, as stated in court records. The crash resulted in the deaths of Willock and LeCroy.

According to court documents obtained by ESPN, there were at least ten reports of traffic-related moving violations involving Georgia football players and their cars in Athens-Clarke County within the five months after the tragic accident. This raised concerns about the program's culture and led to questions for Coach Kirby Smart and the university.

The recent arrests of Mondon and Hughley serve as another reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding reckless driving among Georgia football players. It is essential for the university and coaching staff to address these concerns promptly to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.
