This revelation came from his daughter, Liz Cheney, during an interview at the Texas Tribute Festival. Liz Cheney emphasized that her father views former President Donald Trump as a serious threat to democracy.

Speaking to reporter Mark Leibovich from "The Atlantic," Liz Cheney discussed her father's perspective on the current political climate. She quoted her father, saying, "There's never been an individual in our country who is as grave a threat to our democracy as Donald Trump is, and that's the moment that we're facing."

Both Cheney family members have been openly critical of Trump, especially in the aftermath of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob. Earlier this week, Liz Cheney declared that she would be voting for Kamala Harris.

During her appearance at the festival, Liz Cheney also made news by announcing her support for incumbent Texas Senator Ted Cruz's Democratic challenger, Representative Colin Allred. Cheney highlighted the importance of electing serious and honorable public servants, stating, "You know, there aren't enough good candidates running. I want to say specifically, though, here in Texas, you guys do have a tremendous, serious candidate running for the United States Senate, and his name is... Well, it's not Ted Cruz."

Liz Cheney's endorsement of Colin Allred further underscores her determination to rebuild politics by electing competent individuals who will serve in good faith. She emphasized her past experience working with Allred in the House and praised his leadership qualities.

While Liz Cheney expressed her support for Kamala Harris and Colin Allred, she did challenge Democratic vice-presidential candidate Governor Tim Walz over his recent comments regarding the Israel-Gaza conflict. Cheney disagreed with Walz's focus on the humanitarian conditions in Gaza and emphasized the need to recognize the assault on Israel carried out by Hamas.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, with prominent figures like Dick Cheney breaking party lines, the upcoming elections promise to be a battleground of differing ideologies and alliances. Liz Cheney's decision to support candidates across party lines reflects her commitment to principles she believes are essential for the future of American democracy.
