Former Texas defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat found himself in legal trouble over the weekend as he was arrested on Sunday for driving while intoxicated (DWI) in Austin, Texas. According to jail records from the Travis County Sheriff's Office, Sweat, 22, was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon and booked at 2:12 p.m. CT.

The arrest followed a car crash involving an SUV and a sedan that occurred at 4:41 a.m. CT on Sunday, as reported by ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. Austin police identified Sweat as the driver of the SUV, while the driver of the sedan fled the scene on foot immediately after the accident. The specifics of the crash and any injuries sustained remain undisclosed.

Sweat, a prominent Texas defensive lineman, had been seen attending a university softball game at McCombs Field in Austin the day before his arrest. He watched as Texas triumphed over Oklahoma with a score of 2-1. However, his enjoyment of the game was quickly overshadowed by the events that unfolded the following morning.

A bond of $3,000 was set for Sweat, and it appears that the payment was made through a "personal bond" before 3:45 p.m. CT. Although the status of any future court appearances is currently unknown, the incident could have repercussions for Sweat's professional football career.

Sweat had been projected to be a second- or third-round selection in the upcoming NFL Draft after an impressive performance on the field in 2023. As a fifth-year senior, he was honored with the 2023 Outland Trophy for his outstanding performance as an interior defensive lineman and was named the Big 12 Conference defensive player of the year. His contributions, including 45 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, and two sacks, helped lead Texas to win the Big 12 championship and advance to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.

Despite scheduled visits to the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans this week, the DWI incident may lead some teams to question Sweat's character and potentially remove him from their draft boards. Nevertheless, Sweat remains highly regarded as the top nose tackle available for selection in the upcoming NFL Draft, set to take place from April 25-27 in Detroit.
