Tragedy struck the football world early Sunday morning as former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and kick returner, Jacoby Jones, passed away at the young age of 40. The cause of his death has not yet been revealed.

Jones, known for his charismatic personality and positive attitude off the field, had a successful career primarily with the Baltimore Ravens. He was a Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion in 2012 when the Ravens claimed victory in Super Bowl XLVII. In that historic game, Jones became the first player in NFL history to both catch and return a touchdown.

During the 2015 season, the Steelers acquired Jones off waivers from the San Diego Chargers. He played 13 games for the black and gold, making a notable impact on the team.

Paying tribute to Jones, Steelers' Head Coach Mike Tomlin expressed his heartfelt sympathy to Jones' family during this difficult time. He fondly remembered coaching Jones during his time with the team.

Tomlin and Jones were also involved in one of the most memorable plays in NFL history. On Thanksgiving night in 2013, during a game between the Steelers and the Ravens, Jones made a game-changing play on special teams. However, Tomlin inadvertently stepped onto the field, altering Jones' path and causing him to be tackled by Steelers defensive back Cortez Allen. This play resulted in a fine of $100,000 for Tomlin and remains an infamous moment for both Tomlin and the now late Jones.

Despite the incident, Jones continued to make significant contributions to the Ravens' success, helping them win the Super Bowl in New Orleans. He retired as a Baltimore Raven in 2019, jokingly suggesting that he may try to get even with Tomlin by tripping him before a game against the Steelers.

The passing of Jacoby Jones has left the football community in shock and mourning. Our thoughts and condolences go out to all those affected by this tragic loss.
