Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., expressed regret for her previous support of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election and the years following. This comes after Cheney's notable endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential race.

When NBC host Kristen Welker asked Cheney if she regretted standing by Trump after his contentious 2016 debate remarks about the peaceful transition of power, Cheney answered affirmatively. Reflecting on Trump's actions during the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, Cheney called his behavior "depravity" and "fundamentally cruel," signaling a stark repudiation of the former president.

Cheney's criticism of Trump has placed her at odds with her former party peers. She was ousted as the chair of the House Republican Conference due to her outspoken stance against Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. Additionally, she was one of ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump following the Capitol insurrection and served as the vice chair of the House select committee investigating the incident.

The former Wyoming representative has since redirected her political energies, now actively supporting Kamala Harris. Cheney recently campaigned alongside Harris at a rally in Ripon, Wisconsin, urging voters to back the Democratic ticket. This marks a significant political shift for Cheney, who lost her 2022 primary by over 32 points to Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman, now Wyoming's current House representative.
