In an unexpected turn of events, Bailey Zappe, who was recently waived by the New England Patriots, has quickly found a new opportunity. According to NFL Media, Zappe has secured a deal to join the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Zappe will now have the chance to work closely with the highly accomplished quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a two-time league MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP, as well as the renowned offensive mind of head coach Andy Reid. This move presents an exciting opportunity for Zappe to further develop his skills and learn from the best in the game.

Notably, this is the second time in as many years that Zappe has been released by the Patriots, but unlike last year when he returned via the practice squad, this time the Chiefs were quick to sign the third-year veteran.

During the offseason, Zappe initially held the position of the Patriots' backup quarterback behind Jacoby Brissett. However, he gradually lost ground to Drake Maye, who was chosen as the third overall pick in the draft. As the summer progressed, Zappe found himself trailing behind rookie quarterback Joe Milton III in terms of reps.

Zappe's opportunity to showcase his talent came in the preseason finale against Washington, where he played the final series of the exhibition game. Despite not securing a spot on New England's regular roster, Zappe's performance evidently caught the attention of the Chiefs, who wasted no time in adding him to their practice squad.

Joining the Chiefs' practice squad provides Zappe with invaluable experience and the opportunity to refine his skills under the guidance of Mahomes and Reid. This move signals the Chiefs' interest in nurturing and developing Zappe's potential as a quarterback.

As the NFL season gets underway, it will be interesting to see how Zappe's journey with the Chiefs unfolds and whether he can make an impact in the future.
