**Former Governor David Paterson and Stepson Attacked in New York City**

Former Governor of New York, David Paterson, and his stepson were victims of an assault late Friday night while walking near their residence in New York City. The New York City Police Department arrived at the scene around 8:30 p.m. ET, finding a 20-year-old male with facial injuries and a 70-year-old male with head injuries. Authorities have not disclosed the details of how the injuries occurred or the events leading up to the assault but have indicated that they are searching for at least five suspects in connection with the incident.

According to a statement from Sean Darcy, spokesperson for Paterson, the altercation involved individuals who had a previous altercation with Paterson's stepson. Despite sustaining injuries, Paterson and his stepson managed to fend off their attackers. Both were treated at a hospital and subsequently released.

In a message conveyed by Darcy, Paterson has urged the public and media not to exploit the unfortunate event for personal or political advantage. Paterson and his wife, Mary, expressed gratitude for the police's prompt response and the widespread support they have received.

Darcy also mentioned that Paterson's main concern on Saturday was the performance of Kodai Senga and the New York Mets, who were set to play a playoff game against the Philadelphia Phillies that afternoon.
