In a shocking incident at Dawson Avenue Beach in West Haven, Connecticut, two children are now recovering in the intensive care unit after their father attempted to drown them, according to investigators. The harrowing event took place in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A patrol officer from the West Haven Police Department noticed an SUV parked at the beach around 2:30 a.m. As the officer approached the vehicle, screams emanated from the water. Upon further investigation, the officer discovered Romney Desronvil, a 41-year-old resident of Queens, New York, with his two children in the water.

The situation quickly escalated as Desronvil continued to drift away with the children, while simultaneously shouting at the officers to stay back. It became evident to the responding officers that Desronvil was intentionally attempting to drown his own children, as stated by the West Haven Police Department.

Promptly, additional police officers and members of the fire department joined the rescue effort, even venturing up to 100 yards from the shore to assist in saving the lives of the children. With their combined efforts, the officers managed to separate the children from their father and bring them back to safety on the shore. Life-saving measures were administered immediately before both children were rushed to the hospital.

Following the incident, Desronvil was taken into custody and is now facing charges of two counts each of attempted homicide and risk of injury, according to investigators. At present, no information regarding his attorney has been made available.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into this deeply distressing incident. Updates on the case will be provided as they become available.
