In the ongoing trial of three former Memphis police officers accused in the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols, shocking video footage was presented in court on Thursday showing two emergency medical technicians standing idly by, providing no medical aid to Nichols after he was brutally assaulted by the officers. The video from body-worn cameras revealed EMTs Robert Long and JaMichael Sandridge failing to assist Nichols, who was left on the ground in dire need of medical attention following the vicious attack.

Nichols, a Black man, had been pepper-sprayed, hit with a stun gun, and then beaten by five police officers near his home. Despite his calls for help, the officers continued the assault. Nichols succumbed to his injuries three days later, with an autopsy report confirming that his cause of death was due to head injuries sustained during the beating. Former officers Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, and Justin Smith are facing charges for neglecting to provide medical care to Nichols and using excessive force during the incident.

The prosecution argued that the officers used unnecessary force as a form of punishment against Nichols for running away from them during the traffic stop. Former Scorpion Unit member Kyle Coudriet testified about the aggressive behavior of his teammates, including incidents of violence and punishment during arrests. The defense has attempted to shift blame onto fire department personnel for not assisting Nichols promptly, as shown in the video evidence presented in court.
