An elderly woman tragically lost her life after a stolen vehicle crashed into a building in downtown Washington, D.C., on Monday afternoon, according to police officials. The incident occurred at the corner of 6th and D Street Northwest, where the U.S. Attorney's Office for D.C. is located.

The sequence of events began at the Washington Hospital Center in the 100 block of Irving Street, where a white SUV was stolen just before 1:15 p.m. The driver of the vehicle stepped out momentarily, providing an opportunity for an unidentified woman to enter the car and drive away.
