In a shocking incident in West Virginia, an 81-year-old man, William Brock, allegedly shot and killed an innocent Uber driver, Loletha Hall, after falling victim to a scam. Disturbing 911 audio obtained by Inside Edition shed light on the events leading up to the March 25 shooting.

According to Brock, he had received threatening phone calls, warning him that he and his family would be killed unless he paid $12,000. Fearing for his life, he believed that Hall, who had also been targeted by the same scammer, was working in tandem with the criminal.

In the chilling call to emergency services, Brock informed the operator about the shooting, revealing that he shot Hall in the leg and then in the shoulder. It was later discovered that the scammer had informed Brock that a relative had been incarcerated and demanded the payment as a ransom for their release.

The driver, Hall, had apparently been contacted by the same scammer or an accomplice, instructing her to pick up a package from Brock's home for delivery. Upon arriving, Brock allegedly detained her, demanding that she identify the person who contacted her. As Hall tried to leave, a struggle ensued, and Brock fatally shot her.

Authorities have traced the scammer's call to Canada but suspect that a burner phone was used, making it harder to track down the individual responsible. Shocking dashcam footage from Hall's car captured the moment Brock approached her, brandishing a revolver.

Hall, who was unarmed and suffering from medical conditions, posed no threat to Brock during the encounter. Despite this, Brock failed to contact the authorities for assistance while holding a firearm. As a result, he was arrested and charged with murder. Brock has pleaded not guilty, and his bail has been set at $200,000.

Following the incident, the Clark County Sheriff's Office issued a statement urging residents, especially seniors, to exercise caution when receiving unexpected requests for cash bail or other similar scams. They emphasized that law enforcement agencies or courts would never solicit funds in this manner.

As the investigation continues, the tragic loss of Loletha Hall serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by scams and the importance of remaining vigilant against fraudsters who prey on unsuspecting victims.
