**Maryville Man Convicted of Plotting to Kill FBI Agents**
In Maryville, Tennessee, Edward Kelley, a 35-year-old resident, has been convicted by a federal court for conspiring to murder Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel. This conviction is linked to his activities surrounding the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots.
According to the Department of Justice, Kelley faced charges of conspiracy to murder federal employees and influencing a federal official by threat, carrying a potential life sentence. His sentencing date has been set for May 7, 2025.
Court proceedings revealed that Kelley devised a detailed plan to kill law enforcement officers, including FBI agents, while he was awaiting trial for his participation in the Capitol riots. Prosecutors presented evidence showing that Kelley created a "kill list" of FBI agents and others involved in investigating his actions on January 6. This list was handed over to an accomplice, along with videos depicting some of the targeted agents.
Austin Carter, a 26-year-old from Knoxville and co-conspirator, testified against Kelley. Carter, who has already pleaded guilty to the conspiracy, disclosed that they planned to use car bombs and drones equipped with incendiary devices to attack the Knoxville FBI office. They also plotted to assassinate FBI agents at their homes and in public venues, such as movie theaters.
Recordings played during the trial featured Kelley discussing a course of action related to the murder plot. In one recording, he instructed that the attack should commence if he were arrested, emphasizing, "Every hit has to hurt. Every hit has to hurt," as stated by the DOJ.
