In Eagles' training camp action on Monday, both C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Cam Jurgens left practice early, with more updates expected on their status on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the depth chart revealed some intriguing developments, particularly at the offensive line positions.
During the practice, Becton initially started as the Eagles' first-team right guard, but Steen did not participate in team drills, making it difficult to draw concrete conclusions about the depth chart. Lane Johnson appeared to be limited, potentially due to veteran rest, as Fred Johnson filled in at right tackle.
The second-team offensive line for the Eagles featured Max Scharping, Trevor Keegan, Dylan McMahon, Matt Hennessy, and Darian Kinnard, while the third team consisted of Laekin Vakalahi, Nick Gates, McMahon, Scharping, and Anim Dankwah.
One standout performer during the practice was wide receiver Johnny Wilson. The 6-foot-6 receiver continued to receive first-team reps, showcasing his skills both as a slot receiver and on the outside when A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith moved inside. Wilson displayed excellent hands and athleticism, making a fantastic catch in the red zone against tight coverage from Kelee Ringo. He also demonstrated his agility in a one-on-one rep against Ringo.
DeVonta Smith also had a strong showing in the red zone, securing a couple of touchdown catches. He effortlessly beat Reed Blankenship on a slant route and later broke free near the right pylon after being motioned towards the formation.
On the defensive side, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers continued to excel, earning first-team reps opposite Darius Slay for the fourth consecutive day. Rookie Quinyon Mitchell also impressed, consistently earning first-team nickel corner reps.
Zack Baun and Devin White emerged as the top pairing at linebacker. However, the absence of Gardner-Johnson led to James Bradberry filling in at first-team safety, highlighting the team's lack of depth at the position.
In other notable moments, Jordan Davis disrupted the offense early in practice, forcing a safety when the team was backed up. Shon Stephens intercepted a pass from Tanner McKee, returning it for a pick-six, showcasing his playmaking abilities.
The Eagles' practice also featured intense one-on-one drills between the offensive and defensive lines. Several players stood out, including Brett Toth, who consistently impressed in his matchups, and Bryce Huff, who used his speed to make an impact.
Vic Fangio allowed linebacker Nakobe Dean to blitz frequently, showcasing his effectiveness in that role. However, Dean struggled at times in coverage, emphasizing the importance of his pass-blocking skills if he hopes to see the field on third downs.
Overall, the Eagles' training camp continues to provide insights into the team's depth chart, with standout performances from players like Johnny Wilson and impactful plays from the defense. As the preseason approaches, these developments will be closely observed to determine the final roster composition.
