"Diddy Returns New York's Key to the City Amid Controversy Surrounding Assault Video"
In a surprising turn of events, renowned rapper and entrepreneur Diddy, also known as Sean Combs, has handed back the Key to the City of New York following a request made by Mayor Eric Adams. TMZ has obtained two letters, one addressed to Diddy's office in New York and the other to his Los Angeles office, in which Mayor Adams expresses his deep concern over the recently surfaced Cassie assault video.
Mayor Adams, who stands in solidarity with survivors of domestic abuse, stated that the Key to the City is awarded to individuals who exemplify outstanding citizenship. However, the selection committee no longer believes that Diddy meets this standard. In his letter, Mayor Adams mentioned that the committee recommended revoking the key and provided an address for its return.
Sources with direct knowledge have informed TMZ that the letters were sent out on June 4, and Diddy promptly responded by returning the key on June 10. Despite the return, Diddy's name will remain in the city's log of Key to the City recipients. However, a statement has been added specifying that the key was rescinded by Mayor Eric Adams on June 4, 2024, due to Diddy's actions of domestic and gender-based violence.
Diddy had proudly received the Key to the City less than a year ago and even posed for photographs with Mayor Adams in September. Unfortunately, this honor was followed by a series of allegations against Diddy, beginning with Cassie's lawsuit in November. While he has denied allegations of wrongdoing, Diddy did admit to assaulting Cassie and publicly apologized after the video came to light. Additionally, he is currently facing multiple sexual assault lawsuits and is under investigation by federal authorities for alleged sex and narcotics trafficking, as well as other serious crimes.
This move by Diddy to return the Key to the City appears to be the inevitable conclusion to this ongoing saga. It is worth noting that many New York City politicians had been pressuring Mayor Adams to retrieve the key. Last month, New York City Councilman Erik Bottcher expressed that it was a straightforward decision to revoke the honor.
As of now, there has been no response from Diddy's team. Further developments regarding this matter may unfold in the coming days.
