Tragedy struck DePaul University as sophomore soccer player Chase Stegall was found deceased in his residence hall on the Lincoln Park campus earlier this morning, June 2. The university community is reeling from the sudden loss of the 20-year-old athlete from Atlanta, Georgia.

In an email addressed to faculty, staff, and students, DePaul President Rob Manuel described Stegall as a beacon of warmth, strength, and vibrancy whose presence was felt both on and off the field. Manuel expressed profound sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to Stegall’s family, friends, and everyone affected by his unexpected death.

DePaul's vice president and director of athletics, DeWayne Peevy, along with men’s soccer head coach Mark Plotkin, issued a joint statement reflecting the deep grief felt throughout the athletics department. They commemorated Stegall as a cherished community member, dedicated teammate, and kind-hearted friend, promising to support his family and teammates during this difficult period.
