In a passionate online address to the participants of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly session, Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov called on neighboring countries to take action to protect the western regions of Ukraine by closing their skies. The Defense Ministry conveyed this urgent plea on a Facebook post, reported Ukrinform.

Umerov highlighted Russia's relentless attempts to destroy everything it cannot capture, emphasizing the killings and terror inflicted upon innocent civilians. To halt these atrocities, the Defense Minister implored Ukraine's partners to grant permission for the use of western weapons from a greater distance.

The Defense Minister stressed that the attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities by Russia not only endanger Ukraine but also pose a threat to neighboring countries. To address this critical issue, Umerov urged neighboring NATO member nations, unable to provide Ukraine with their air defense systems, to close the airspace over the western regions of Ukraine from their territories.

Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support extended to Ukraine, Umerov acknowledged the assistance from all partners involved. It should be noted that the proposal to close the sky over Western Ukraine has been an ongoing topic of discussion among German experts for the past few months. Chancellor Olaf Scholz made it categorically clear that he deems this suggestion unacceptable.

As tension continues to rise in the region, Umerov's call to safeguard the skies over western Ukraine highlights the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for concerted international efforts to protect the innocent and maintain stability.
