In a series of intense clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces, five people were tragically killed in Ukrainian shelling near Russia's border region of Belgorod, officials confirmed on Sunday. Additionally, Russian forces launched a strike on a hotel in eastern Ukraine, resulting in one journalist missing and two others sustaining injuries.

The shelling in the Russian village of Rakitone, located 38 kilometers (23 miles) from the Ukrainian border, left twelve people wounded, with a 16-year-old girl reported to be in critical condition, according to Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Tragically, another man lost his life in a separate drone attack on the border village of Solovevka, as reported by Gladkov on social media.

Meanwhile, Russian forces targeted a hotel overnight in the city of Kramatorsk, in the eastern Donetsk region, injuring two individuals and trapping one person under the rubble, revealed Regional Governor Vadym Filashkin. The victims were identified as journalists from Ukraine, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Disturbingly, Reuters news agency disclosed that one of their journalists covering the conflict in Ukraine was missing, and two other team members were hospitalized after the Hotel Sapphire, where they were staying, was apparently struck by a missile on Saturday. "One of our colleagues is unaccounted for, while another two have been taken to hospital for treatment," stated the agency. The rest of the team has been located safely, added Reuters.

The aftermath of the attack left the hotel and a nearby multistory building reduced to rubble, with excavators tirelessly working to clear debris even hours after the incident, according to Associated Press reporters at the scene. Local officials claimed that the hotel had been targeted by an Iskander-M Russian ballistic missile, causing the journalists to suffer blast injuries, concussions, and cuts on their bodies. Alongside the hotel, a neighboring multistory building was also destroyed, confirmed Filashkin. Rescue teams were actively engaged in clearing the debris at the site.

Further escalation occurred in Ukraine's eastern Kharkiv region, as it came under fire from Russian forces, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, reported Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov on the Telegram messaging app. In the Chuhuiv region of Kharkiv, five people, including a 4-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, were injured after two houses were struck by Russian fire. Additionally, eight individuals in Kharkiv city were wounded when a two-story house was set ablaze by a Russian attack. In Balakliia, six houses were destroyed, and a 55-year-old man was injured. Another house in the Kupiansk area was also set on fire, with four women sustaining injuries.

These recent incidents of violence exemplify the ongoing tensions and volatility in the Ukraine-Russia border regions.
