Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has announced that rookie defensive back Cooper DeJean, who has been sidelined throughout training camp due to a hamstring injury, is set to participate in individual drills during the team's joint practice with the New England Patriots on Tuesday.

DeJean, selected as the 40th overall pick in April's draft, suffered the injury during offseason training when he found himself in an awkward position, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Initially placed on the non-football injury list (NFI) at the start of training camp, he has been eagerly awaiting his return to the field.

In addition to DeJean's anticipated participation, wide receiver Parris Campbell is also expected to take part in individual drills. Campbell, who has been vying for the No. 3 wide receiver spot this offseason, has been sidelined for over a week due to a groin injury.

During spring training, DeJean showcased promising potential and was considered a strong candidate for the starting nickel job. However, fellow rookie Quinyon Mitchell has since earned first-team reps in the slot, leading to speculation that he may secure the position. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio hinted at the possibility of fielding the best personnel grouping, suggesting Mitchell's emergence could impact DeJean's role upon his return.

The competition for the right cornerback position also remains open. Isaiah Rodgers and Kelee Ringo have been sharing duties in this role thus far in training camp.

When questioned about DeJean's potential impact upon his return to action, Fangio emphasized that there would be no immediate resumption of his previous role. The coaching staff intends to implement limitations on his reps and practice time, depending on his progress and recovery from the injury.

Cooper DeJean, a first-team All-American and Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year in 2023, has demonstrated his value over the past two seasons at Iowa. He recorded seven interceptions and 13 passes defensed while also excelling as a punt returner.

Eagles fans eagerly await DeJean's return to the field, hoping to see him contribute to Philadelphia's defensive unit as they prepare for the upcoming season.
