The cause of death of 30-year-old Mica Miller, hailing from Myrtle Beach, has been released by the Robeson County Medical Examiner. Dr. Richard Johnson stated that Miller died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, clarifying that it was not in the back of the head, as previously speculated. Dr. Johnson, who offers his services as a regional pathologist for the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, assisted the on-call medical examiner at the scene.
Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins, upon learning the cause of death, has scheduled a meeting with Miller's family to share additional details about the medical examiner's findings on Tuesday. Miller's death occurred on April 27 at Lumber River State Park, according to the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.
New reports released on Monday shed light on harassment incidents leading up to Miller's death, with indications that she was living in fear. In response, friends and family organized a rally in front of Solid Rock Church on Sunday, demanding justice for Mica.
On that same afternoon, Mica's family held a memorial service while her estranged husband, Pastor John-Paul Miller, hosted a memorial service at Solid Rock Church. The church made an announcement on Monday, revealing that Pastor John-Paul Miller has been released from his ministerial functions for a period of "healing, counsel, and guidance" in accordance with the church's governing instrument. Additionally, the church's website was suspended over the weekend.
As the investigation into Mica Miller's death continues, the community waits for further updates from law enforcement officials and hopes for a resolution to the tragic events that unfolded.
