In a chilling incident that has shocked the residents of Bristol, police have launched a search for a man who was behaving suspiciously on the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge just before the discovery of two suitcases believed to contain human remains. The Avon and Somerset Police were alerted to the situation late on Wednesday night, promptly arriving on the scene but finding the man already gone.

Acting Bristol Commander Vicks Hayward-Melen expressed her deep concern over the incident, acknowledging the worry it has caused within the community. She stressed the need to identify the deceased, locate the man involved, and inform their next of kin as a priority.

The man, who had arrived at the bridge via taxi, remains unidentified, and the police have released an image of him while urging the public not to approach him. Authorities are currently working alongside the coastguard in an effort to trace the man's movements and establish his identity.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge, a historical masterpiece designed by the renowned engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, stands as one of the oldest surviving suspension bridges globally. Spanning the Avon Gorge, this iconic landmark has become a symbol of Bristol and a major tourist attraction since its opening in 1864.

The police have cordoned off the bridge and its surroundings, with specialist crime scene investigators meticulously examining the area. As a result, the bridge will remain closed until the inquiries are completed. Authorities are also diligently reviewing surveillance footage to gain insights into the man's activities after leaving the bridge.

In their official statement, the police reassured the public that there is currently no apparent risk to the wider population. Meanwhile, investigators are focusing on the task at hand, determined to gather evidence that will aid in solving this disturbing case.

This distressing incident follows closely on the heels of another tragic event in England, where a 26-year-old man was apprehended after a manhunt surrounding the murders of three women with a crossbow.

As the search for the suspicious man continues, Bristol remains on edge, seeking answers and hoping for swift resolution.
