"The West Wing" and "Get Out" actor Bradley Whitford recently took to social media to criticize actress Cheryl Hines for her silence regarding her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., endorsing Donald Trump for president in the upcoming election.
RFK Jr. had recently dropped out of the presidential race on August 23 and publicly announced his support for Trump. In a scathing post on social media, Whitford expressed his disappointment, saying, "Hey Cheryl Hines, way to stay silent while your lunatic husband throws his support behind the adjudicated rapist who brags about stripping women of their fundamental rights. Gutsy. Great example for the kids. Profile in courage."
Whitford, known for his activism in supporting Kamala Harris, is vocal about his political views and has not shied away from calling out those who differ from his perspective. In this case, he took issue with Hines' refusal to criticize her husband for endorsing Trump.
Hines, known for her role in the popular television show "Curb Your Enthusiasm," had previously taken to social media to commend RFK Jr.'s campaign team after his exit from the race. She praised their accomplishments, including gathering over a million signatures despite obstacles and lawsuits aimed at preventing RFK Jr. from appearing on the ballots.
However, Hines stopped short of explicitly endorsing any political party, stating, "Over the last year and a half, I have met some extraordinary people from all parties - Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. It's been my experience that the vast majority of all parties are truly good people who want the best for our country and for each other."
The decision to refrain from criticizing her husband for endorsing Trump generated controversy, which Whitford highlighted in his social media post. Not only did Whitford call out Hines for her silence, but RFK Jr.'s extended family also expressed their disappointment with his Trump endorsement.
In a statement co-signed by her three siblings, Kerry Kennedy, RFK Jr.'s sister, expressed their disapproval, saying, "We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future. We believe in Harris and Walz. Our brother Bobby's decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear."
The controversy surrounding RFK Jr.'s endorsement of Trump showcases the differing political views within the Kennedy family. While some family members support Harris and Walz, others, like RFK Jr., have chosen to endorse Trump.
As the election draws near, tensions continue to rise, and celebrities like Bradley Whitford are using their platforms to voice their opinions. The public will undoubtedly be closely watching the reactions and endorsements from influential figures as the campaign intensifies.
