In a tragic turn of events, the body of a truck driver believed to be David Schultz, who had been missing since November, has been discovered in a field in northwest Iowa. The body was found not far from where Schultz's abandoned semi-truck was located on an isolated highway just before Thanksgiving.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety announced on Wednesday that a person in the field had stumbled upon the body. While the DPS did not confirm the identity of the deceased individual, a forensic autopsy has been scheduled. However, Schultz's wife, Sarah, told CBS affiliate KCCI-TV and other media outlets that the person found was wearing boots matching her husband's and that his keys were found in the pants pocket.

The news of the discovery left Sarah Schultz with mixed emotions, bringing both relief and sorrow. Nonetheless, she expressed her belief that foul play may have been involved in her husband's death, stating, "I know he would've never left us unless something bad happened. I can't think of any reason why he would've walked a mile and a half out to the middle of a field and laid down."

Schultz, a resident of Wall Lake, Iowa, had set off late on the night of November 20 to pick up a load of pigs from a hog confinement near Eagle Grove. His destination was a livestock dealer in Sac City, approximately 90 miles northwest of Des Moines. When Schultz failed to make the delivery and could not be reached on his phone, his wife reported him missing. Later that afternoon, the truck was discovered less than 10 miles from his intended destination, with the pigs still in the trailer. Schultz's wallet, phone, and jacket were found inside the rig.

The search for Schultz was extensive, involving local law enforcement agencies and over 250 volunteers who scoured an additional 100,000 acres of land. Jake Rowley, the regional team leader of the United Cajun Navy, a nonprofit search-and-rescue organization that assisted in the search, mentioned that one unanswered question is whether the body had been in the field the entire time or if it had been recently moved to the spot where it was found.

Sarah Schultz has described her husband as a devoted family man who emphasized the importance of respect and hard work to his children. She expressed her grief and lamented the unfairness of the situation, saying, "He was such a good father. It's not fair."

As the investigation into David Schultz's death continues, authorities hope to uncover the truth surrounding the mysterious circumstances that led to his tragic demise.
