An incident occurred at Arlington National Cemetery during former President Donald Trump's visit on Monday, resulting in a report being filed, according to a statement from the cemetery. Although specific details were not immediately provided, NPR reported that two Trump campaign officials were involved in a verbal and physical altercation with a cemetery staff member.

The altercation allegedly took place in Section 60 of the cemetery, where recent U.S. veterans are buried. The Trump campaign officials were reportedly asked not to take photos and videos in this section, which led to the heated exchange.

A representative for Arlington National Cemetery confirmed the incident in a statement, without going into specifics. They highlighted that federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, including photography or any activities in support of partisan political campaigns.

Despite these rules, the Trump campaign posted a video capturing moments from the former president's visit, including images from Section 60 where the alleged altercation occurred. The video, shared on TikTok, featured Trump participating in the wreath-laying ceremony, interacting with Gold Star families, and expressing political opinions, specifically blaming the Biden-Harris administration for the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.

In response to the incident, the Trump campaign's communications director posted what he claimed was proof of the team's approval to have an official photographer and videographer present outside of the main press pool. However, it should be noted that campaign officials, not professionals, were also capturing photos and videos.

The Trump campaign's actions sparked criticism as they violated the explicit rule set by the cemetery that no Trump activity should be filmed during his visit to Section 60. The visit to this section was meant to be private and at the explicit request of the families, with no media coverage allowed.

Arlington National Cemetery reiterated their stance, explaining that the visit to Section 60 was solely for families to pay respects to their loved ones. They condemned any attempts to disrupt or politicize such visits.

While the Trump campaign denied the reported physical altercation, stating that no such incident occurred, they expressed readiness to release footage to refute defamatory claims. Additionally, the campaign used the visit to criticize Vice President Kamala Harris for her absence.

Former President Trump's visit to Arlington National Cemetery coincided with the third anniversary of the deaths of 13 service members during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Throughout the day, he laid flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers, including Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss, and spoke with their families over the phone.

The incident at Arlington National Cemetery serves as a reminder of the sensitive nature of such sacred spaces and underscores the importance of respecting the rules and wishes of those who have lost loved ones in service to their country.
