In a series of politically-motivated incidents, a man suspected of running over an elderly man with an ATV as he erected a Trump sign and vandalizing vehicles was found dead this week. The Hancock Police Department in Michigan responded to three separate incidents on Sunday, which seemed to be fueled by political motives, according to a news release.

One of the incidents involved a man on an ATV intentionally running over an 80-year-old man while he was placing a political sign in his yard. The two other crimes were related to vehicles being intentionally vandalized in the residential area of Hancock, near Lake Superior.

The victim of the vehicular assault was in critical condition as of Tuesday, and police confirmed that the suspect appeared to have targeted both Trump supporters and law enforcement advocates. Individuals displaying Trump signs, as well as those with law enforcement appreciation stickers and "thin blue line" flags, were specifically targeted.

The following day, a man contacted the police, expressing his desire to confess to a crime involving an ATV driver in the past 24 hours. He instructed the police to send someone to pick him up. Responding officers, along with deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff's Office, proceeded to the man's residence in Quincy Township, located approximately 2 miles east of where the elderly man was run down. The authorities found the 22-year-old suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A search warrant was obtained for the suspect's home, leading to the discovery of several electronic devices, the ATV allegedly used in the crime, and the clothing worn by the suspect during the incident. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of the suspect's death. The current condition of the victim remains unknown.

Police stated on Tuesday that there is no further threat to the public at this time. The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Michigan State Police and the FBI, among other agencies. Individuals with any information related to the case are encouraged to contact the Hancock police or the sheriff’s office.

As the situation continues to develop, updates on the investigation will be provided.
