Grammy-winning singer Adele made a powerful statement against hate during one of her Las Vegas concerts over the weekend. A video circulating on social media shows Adele responding with a profanity-laced outburst to an audience member who shouted, "Pride sucks" during her performance. The comment was seen as a derogatory reference to the annual celebration of LGBTQ+ communities, known as Pride Month.
In the video, Adele expressed immediate annoyance at the heckler, asking, "Excuse me, did you come to my f***ing show and just say that 'Pride sucks'?" The crowd quickly rallied behind her as she continued to admonish the individual, exclaiming, "Are you f***ing stupid? Don't be so f***ing ridiculous." The audience responded with cheers and applause, clearly standing in solidarity with the singer.
Pride Month is observed worldwide every June, serving as a commemoration of the LGBTQ+ community's freedom to live authentically and celebrate their identities. Adele's passionate response to the offensive comment sends a clear message that hateful remarks are not welcome at her concerts.
CNN has reached out to Adele's representative for further comment regarding the incident. It remains unknown whether the heckler remained for the remainder of the concert. Additionally, The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the venue where the concert took place, has yet to respond to CNN's inquiry.
Adele has gained a reputation for engaging with her audience during her Las Vegas residency concerts. In a similar incident last year, she reprimanded a security guard for bothering a fan, urging the security team and nearby audience members to "leave him alone."
Adele's Las Vegas residency, "Weekends with Adele," began in 2021 and has been well-received by audiences. However, in August, she will take a break from the Las Vegas show to perform a special "Adele in Munich" concert series in Germany. The singer will then return to North America to conclude her residency in November.
This recent incident at Adele's concert showcases her commitment to promoting inclusivity and rejecting hate speech. The singer's response serves as a reminder that intolerance and discriminatory comments will not be tolerated in her presence.
