Man Accused of Killing and Dismembering Pregnant Sister in Lakeville
LAKEVILLE, Minn. - A 23-year-old man from Lakeville, Jack Joseph Ball, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection to the brutal killing and dismemberment of his pregnant sister, identified as 30-year-old Bethany Israel of Bloomington. The shocking incident occurred last Thursday evening, according to officials from Dakota County.
Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena expressed her deep concern and horror over the allegations in this case, stating that words cannot adequately describe the disturbing nature of the crime. Keena assured the public that her office will work tirelessly to ensure justice for the victims and provide support to their grieving family.
Ball's bail has been set at $2 million without conditions and $1 million with conditions. Once medically cleared, he will be transferred to the Dakota County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 10 in Hastings.
The criminal complaint reveals that family members grew worried when Israel did not return home after having dinner with her brother at a residence in Lakeville. Suspicions were raised when one family member witnessed Ball leaving the scene in haste. Concerned, they entered the house and were confronted with a distressing sight - a significant amount of blood. Police were immediately called to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered bloody knives and several dismembered body parts believed to belong to Israel. An alert was issued for Ball's vehicle, which was subsequently located in Rosemount. During the search for the suspect, a resident noticed on their home security camera a man placing what seemed to be a body part on their front step. Shortly after, Ball was found hiding in a neighboring backyard.
Ball was found with a self-inflicted wound to his neck and was promptly taken to a local hospital for treatment. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has determined that Israel's death resulted from "complex homicidal violence." Additionally, it was confirmed that she was between 17 and 18 weeks pregnant at the time.
This gruesome crime has sent shockwaves through the community, and authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice. The legal proceedings will continue in the coming weeks, with the next court appearance scheduled for June 10. The victims' family will receive the necessary support during this challenging time.
