In a series of attacks, US forces in Syria were targeted by Iran-backed groups following the US military's airstrikes on Sunday. According to a US official, there were at least four attacks after the strikes on a training facility and safe house. These attacks, which involved a combination of rockets and drones, reportedly took place in different locations.

The first attack occurred on Sunday evening when a multi-rocket assault was launched on troops at Mission Support site Euphrates in Syria. Additionally, two one-way drone attacks were carried out at Mission Support Site Green Village and al-Shaddadi in Syria. Fortunately, both drones were intercepted before reaching their intended targets, resulting in no casualties or damage to infrastructure.

On Monday morning, further one-way attack drones were launched at forces in Rumalyn Landing Zone, Syria. While one drone was successfully shot down, another drone impacted the landing zone, causing minor damage to four tents. Once again, there were no reported casualties.

Over the weekend, there were additional attacks targeting US forces. On Saturday morning, multiple one-way attack drones were launched at forces in Rumalyn Landing Zone, with one drone being intercepted and another failing to detonate upon impact. Similarly, on Friday morning, a one-way attack drone aimed at forces at al-Tanf Garrison in Syria was shot down before reaching its target. Fortunately, there were no casualties or damage in either of these attacks.

Since October 17th, US and coalition forces have faced a total of 52 attacks, with 24 incidents occurring in Iraq and 28 in Syria. As a result of these assaults by Iranian-backed groups, at least 56 troops have been injured. Among them, 25 have suffered traumatic brain injuries, while others sustained minor injuries, as confirmed by Pentagon officials.

The recent airstrikes on Sunday were the third time the US has targeted facilities or locations in response to ongoing attacks on US and coalition forces in Iraq and Syria. Last week, two US F-15 fighter jets struck a weapons storage facility utilized by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated groups. Similarly, on October 26th, the US carried out strikes on two facilities linked to Iranian-backed militias.

According to a second defense official, the training facility that was targeted on Sunday was suspected to serve as a logistics and weapons storage site, as evidenced by secondary explosions. The safe house near Mayadin was assessed as a headquarters for IRGC-affiliated groups operating in the area.

The official emphasized that the US aims to disrupt and degrade the capabilities of IRGC and its associated forces, which are directly responsible for attacking US forces. However, casualty assessments were not available at the time.

The US government reiterated its desire to avoid further conflict, but strongly condemned the Iran-backed attacks on its forces. By specifically targeting IRGC-associated facilities, the US seeks to hold Iran accountable for these hostile actions.

The situation remains tense as both the US and Iran navigate this latest escalation of tensions in the region.
