Unsealed divorce records pertaining to Fulton County Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade have not provided any evidence of an "improper, clandestine" relationship with his superior, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. These records were recently opened amid allegations made by co-defendant Michael Roman, a former White House aide, who claimed a romantic involvement between Willis and Wade.

Judge Henry Thompson of the Cobb County Superior Court ordered the unsealing of the records, which spanned hundreds of pages, on Monday. However, there was no mention of Willis or any potential romantic involvement in the extensively reviewed documents.

The divorce proceedings between Nathan and Joycelyn Wade revealed that suspicions were harbored by Mrs. Wade. The couple got married on June 21, 1997, but separated on August 15, 2021, with Nathan filing for divorce on November 2, 2021. As part of her counterclaim submitted on November 30, 2021, Joycelyn included a comprehensive list of interrogatories, delving into financial matters related to Nathan Wade and personal aspects, including potential infidelity during their marriage and separation.

Nathan Wade responded to Joycelyn's counterclaim and interrogatories in December 2021, but the response was considered by Joycelyn's attorney as "woefully inadequate," providing minimal answers and limited documentation. Over the subsequent years, Joycelyn's attorney repeatedly complained about Nathan Wade's refusal to provide requested documents and answer interrogatories. The court ordered Nathan Wade to submit outstanding documents, including tax records and pay stubs, in May 2023. Partial compliance was seen in June, but additional credit card statements and law firm records were demanded in August, resulting in contempt charges against Nathan Wade.

In September 2023, Joycelyn filed a motion to reopen discovery, alleging that Nathan Wade had led a lavish lifestyle and spent significant amounts of money while serving as a special prosecutor in the Trump case, leaving her with minimal financial support. In December 2023, some outstanding discovery responses were produced by Nathan Wade, revealing credit card statements indicating non-work-related trips with Willis.

Joycelyn decided to serve Willis with a notice of deposition on January 8, but Willis sought a protective order against the deposition, which was temporarily granted by a judge. Willis has not admitted to a romantic relationship with Wade and even defended him in a speech at the Bethel AME Church on January 14.

The alleged relationship between Willis and Wade has raised concerns about its impact on the case against former President Trump and the remaining co-defendants, with four already accepting plea deals. Calls for investigations into the matter have been made by Fulton County Commissioner Bob Ellis and Senator Greg Dolezal, who introduced legislation to establish the Senate Special Committee on Investigations.

An evidentiary hearing in the divorce case is set for January 31 in Cobb County Superior Court, while Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee has scheduled a hearing to consider Roman's motion to dismiss his case on February 15.
