In a recent development, the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri has announced charges against two minors in connection to the tragic mass shooting that took place during the Kansas City Chiefs' victory parade earlier this week. According to a statement released by the court on Friday, the juveniles were charged on Thursday, February 15, 2024, by the Office of the Juvenile Officer.
The court further stated that the two juveniles are currently being held in secure detention at the Juvenile Detention Center on charges related to the use of firearms and resisting arrest. The incident occurred near the Union Station parking garage in Kansas City, where gunshots rang out around 2 p.m. local time. Sadly, the shooting claimed the life of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two and a local radio DJ. Additionally, 22 others were injured, including 11 children. However, as of Wednesday night, it was reported that the wounded children were expected to recover, with nine of them sustaining gunshot wounds while the other two faced different injuries.
The court's Friday statement indicated that more charges are likely to be filed in the future as the Kansas City Police Department continues its investigation into the incident. Due to the age of the individuals charged, the court hearings will be open to the public, in accordance with Missouri law.
During a press conference on Thursday, authorities mentioned that they are still investigating the relationship between the subjects involved in the shooting. However, they stated that there is no evidence suggesting any ties to terrorism.
The Kansas City community continues to mourn the loss of Lisa Lopez-Galvan and prays for the swift recovery of those injured in this tragic incident. As the investigation progresses, law enforcement agencies are working diligently to gather all necessary information and bring justice to the victims and their families.
